In the tranquil rural villages of Kushtia, Gazipur, Manikgonj and Birishiri in Bangladesh, 140 women are involved in creating exquisite items using the traditional skills of Nakshikantha embroidery. Patience, perfection, and creativity are necessary attributes for every artisan who hand works this highly skilled embroidery. By securing markets for their embroidery work, the artisans, many whom are single, divorced or widowed are able to earn an income which is vital in their struggle to survive.

SHOHOJOGITA was started to give women an opportunity for a better life. We collaborate with artisans and organizations helping women in difficult circumstances in Bangladesh, specially rural women ONLY. We help by marketing their products so they can afford to daily food, have medical care and provide an education to their children. These women have never had the chances we have had, yet they are just like us in so many ways.
